Wetaase Cervical Cancer Campaign: Flip Chart
Year of Publication: 2024
The Wetaase Cervical Cancer Campaign, spearheaded by Uganda’s Ministry of Health with support from organizations like Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organization (UWOCASO) and the American Cancer Society (ACS), aims to reduce cervical cancer incidence and mortality in Uganda. With technical assistance from the USAID Social and Behavior Change Activity, the campaign focuses on educating women aged 25–49 about cervical cancer, encouraging regular screenings, and promoting HPV vaccination for 10-year-old girls. Key messages emphasize that cervical cancer is preventable and treatable when detected early, with materials such as posters, flip charts, and booklets highlighting the importance of a free five-minute screening test available at health centers.
The campaign integrates innovative approaches like HPV self-sampling instructions to empower women while maintaining privacy as well as educational materials for community health workers to use to engage and inform local communities. The initiative’s toll-free hotlines and directives to nearby health facilities further enhance access to information and services, making it a comprehensive effort to prevent cervical cancer and save lives in Uganda.
